Austin Street Shelter
Hey guys! Since God is gracious enough to give us the internet and blogspots, I hesitate not to use both for His glory! :) This is a blog that gives testimony to how God is moving with a new ministry He's entrusted to my family.
Lots of you know this, but for those who don't, we are involved in a homeless ministry. Britney (Court's sister) was inspired to do something to serve God and His people. After praying about it, God started throwing open doors she and Scottie to walk through. She invited Dane, the girls and I to become part of the journey with her. (Click here to read why God led me to be a part of this ministry).
Over the last months, this ministry has taken on a very exciting momentum. Scottie and Britney's church friends have gotten involved and so have our friends at our church.
Each week we go to the Austin Street shelter (near Deep Ellum in Dallas) and hand out material needs to the residents. We've been forming great relationships with the people at Austin Street and I can't belive how God is working to make Himself known to the people there (including us!)
We always have needs we are trying to meet for our friends at Austin St. I will post them weekly here. If you can ever help us out with the needs, please let me know! Right now, we are in need of men's coats (all sizes) men's tennis shoes and/or boots (all sizes) men's socks, underwear, hygeine items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant), blankets, gloves, hats and Bibles. We are also working on a project for Christmas. We are making "Christmas Stockings" for the residents at the shelter. The bags will have practical items as well as some candy and other goodies. We are collecting hygeiene items and placing them in gallon-sized ziploc bags. We will distribute them on Christmas Eve. Our goal is to have at least 350 bags. Right now we have about 200. Here is what we are putting in each bag:
Travel sized toothpaste
Toothbrush
Travel sized deodorant
Chap Stick
Disposable razor
Candy :)
We had soap and washcloths donated and will be putting those in each bag as well.
If you can help out in any way, we'd be so grateful. If you don't have the time to pick up the items, donations are welcome :) It's averaging out that each bag costs about $2.00 a piece.
Merry Christmas!
